SuperFOIL Loft Insulation by Insulate Now

Reflective multifoil insulation

SuperFOIL Loft Insulation

SuperFOIL is a high-performance reflective multifoil insulation designed for lofts, roofs and walls where space and thermal performance both matter. Rather than relying purely on thickness like traditional mineral wool, SuperFOIL combines layers of reflective foil with insulating wadding and air gaps to tackle all three forms of heat transfer — radiation, conduction and convection. That makes it a genuinely modern answer to keeping British homes warm.

At Insulate Now, SuperFOIL is one of our most requested products, and for good reason. It is slim, clean to handle, and exceptionally effective at reflecting radiant heat back into your home in winter and keeping it out in summer. For homeowners who want to insulate at the rafter line to create a warmer, more usable loft, or who simply want a tidy, modern finish, multifoil is hard to beat.

Below we explain how SuperFOIL works, where it suits your home best, and what to expect when our team fits it for you.

How SuperFOIL Multifoil Works

Heat moves in three ways, and SuperFOIL is engineered to slow all of them. The reflective foil faces tackle radiant heat — the same way a survival blanket bounces body heat back at you. Sandwiched between those faces are layers of insulating wadding and trapped air, which slow conductive and convective heat loss. The result is a thin product that punches well above its thickness.

Crucially, multifoil only delivers its rated performance when it is installed correctly, with the right air gaps on at least one side and properly sealed, taped joints. This is exactly where a specialist installer earns their keep. A roll of foil fitted badly is little more than a shiny lining; fitted properly, it becomes a continuous, low-emissivity thermal barrier.

The Benefits of Choosing SuperFOIL

Space-saving. Because multifoil is slim, it is ideal where headroom is tight or where you want to keep your loft usable. You gain thermal performance without losing the room.Warmth in winter, cool in summer. The reflective faces work both ways — keeping precious heat in during the colder months and reflecting solar gain away in summer, so loft rooms and upper floors stay more comfortable year round.Clean and modern. Unlike loose fibres, foil is tidy to install and pleasant to be around. Your loft is left with a bright, reflective, finished appearance.A vapour-control layer. Many multifoil build-ups also help manage moisture and draughts, contributing to a healthier roof space when combined with proper ventilation.

Where SuperFOIL Suits Your Home

SuperFOIL really comes into its own when you want to insulate at the slope of the roof rather than the loft floor — for example, to create a warm loft for storage, a hobby space or a future conversion. It is also an excellent choice for rooms in the roof, dormers and awkward roof shapes where bulky insulation simply will not fit.

Many of the lofts we work in combine foil at the rafters with insulation at floor level, giving a layered, belt-and-braces approach. During your free survey we will assess your roof structure, ventilation and how you use the space, then recommend the build-up that gives you the best result for your budget.

Our SuperFOIL Installation Process

Every job starts with a free, no-obligation survey. We inspect the loft, check ventilation, note any wiring, downlighters or pipework, and measure up accurately. You then receive a clear, fixed price.

On installation day our fitters arrive on time, protect your access and landing, and install the multifoil with correctly maintained air gaps and fully taped, sealed joints for maximum performance. We work cleanly, lag pipework where needed, and remove all packaging and offcuts when we leave. The aim is simple: a warmer home and a loft you are pleased to look at.

Questions

SuperFOIL Loft Insulation FAQs

Is SuperFOIL as good as thick mineral wool?

SuperFOIL works differently to mineral wool. Instead of relying on thickness alone, it reflects radiant heat and traps air in engineered layers, so a slim multifoil can deliver strong performance where space is limited. For many lofts the best result actually comes from combining foil at the rafters with insulation at floor level — we'll advise during your survey.

Will SuperFOIL save me money on heating?

Properly installed reflective multifoil reduces the heat escaping through your roof, which means your heating runs less to keep the house comfortable. Savings depend on your current insulation, home size and how you heat it, but most homeowners notice a warmer home and a boiler that cycles less.

Does multifoil need an air gap?

Yes. Reflective multifoil only reaches its rated performance with the correct air gap on at least one side and properly sealed joints. This is why correct, specialist installation matters so much — it's the difference between a true thermal barrier and a shiny lining.

Can you fit SuperFOIL in a low loft?

Absolutely — its slim profile is one of the main reasons homeowners choose it. It's ideal where headroom is tight or where bulky insulation would make the loft unusable.

How long does installation take?

Most domestic SuperFOIL installations are completed in a day, though larger or more complex roofs may take longer. We'll give you a realistic timescale with your fixed quote.
